Dyno Test

This is Jan Frank helping to test the new Seeley Mk III with full race engine, before it leaves to go to France next week.

To get the best results you need to adjust the ignition and the carb.  For extreme fine tuning different exhausts, different cams, different rocker ratios, petrol additives etc are compared and compared again in varying combinations.  For most people involved in racing this is 'the best bit', when gradually with a tweak here and an adjustment there you see the graph showing HP and torque climbing up.  Usually this is the result of repeated visits to the dyno, not just one session.  Based on our experience (24 years) of making complete racing engines we have a headstart in that we know what worked well last time and what our customers have tried and what worked for them. This advantage means that in one session we can get everything nearly right.

Nevertheless it is impossible to get it right all the time for everyone, for the racers we aim for a lot of top end power and a plenty of torque, but there are racers with good reason for not going flat out.  In Germany for instance they have Training events, which are basically like races, but the idea is to do every lap at the same speed, the winner has the least (split!) seconds difference between his own lap times.  This means that if you have a rare old bike you can take part in a 'race'and win, without thrashing the bike.  As a result the variety of the bikes taking part in these competitions is immense, and the paddocks are a sight to behold. If you'd like to see an event like this surf to  http://www.classic-motorrad.de/classicrace.htm, a website which gives plenty of information on all kinds of classic racing, not only in Germany but the whole world.
