Niek Leeuwis
Dutch vice champion Niek Leeuwis went to the United States to take part in the classic races at the Barber circuit and Daytona.
He did very well at the races of the barber circuit by getting two 3rd places in the Formula class and two 4th places in the premier 500 class.

Classic world article.
The new G80/85CS Matchless engine.

On the outside these engines are virtually identical to the original Matchless engine.
The only visible differences are that they have a 10mm central spark plug instead of the original 14mm plug, and the inlet flange is a little bit larger and has the carb mounting holes 65mm apart in order to make it possible to fit an Amal GP2 or 1000 series concentric carb.
No one has spotted the differences when inspecting the engine for differences, except on this photo which was taken before the engines were completely finished.
The internals are greatly improved.
The crankshaft is of the well proven ABSAF pressed up type with needle big end bearing and a longer than standard Carillo conrod.
The forged piston is of modern design and is much lighter than the original.
The barrel is one piece aluminium, nikasil plated, so there is no liner.
Piston to barrel clearance is 0.05mm.
The crankshaft bearings are metric roller bearings with brass cages and can take very high loads.
The valves have 5/16" stems and are slightly bigger than original.
Valve guides are phosphor bronze and the coil valve springs are very high quality.
The G85CS cams are Vernier adjustable and run in needle bearings.Head bolts and studs have been redesigned.
All dimensions and threads are as original except for the crank bearing housings.
Rockers were also redesigned at the valve end for better geometry and lubrication.
Questions? Just ask.

Simon Schram builds a Gold Star Crosser and it wins first time out.

Simon Schram built this Rickman crosser for his son Simon Schram Jr. to take part in national Classic Cross events.
It was carefully done and took a lot of time this summer, but all the effort was rewarded.
First time out it won both races! Sadly the season has more or less finished so now the Schram family has to wait until next year to ride out again, but they will be using that time to improve their bike even more.
June 2007 - Update - Simon Schram Sr. and Jr. have been winning nationally and internationally and look set to win the Dutch championship

Metisse ABSAF from France.

Here's another Tender Loving Care project, this one is from France, made by Philippe Dariosecq.
The Rickman Metisse was adapted to fit the Gold Star by using different engine plates.
Amazing how different two red Rickman Metisse ABSAFs can be!
