Phil Read came to Appingedam spring 2003 to collect his new ABSAF. While Jan had been working on the bike, Phil had spent the winter working on his unique Duke fairing.

Despite sweltering temperatures no Englishman in leathers should be forced to endure, Phil Read won recently in one of the last races of the season. Afterwards he told us happily: "Now the Spanish riders want ABSAF Gold Star engines to exchange for their B50's and Ducati's. I blew them all away to win easily by 40 seconds and to lap 6 seconds faster than ever before in this class".
